Motorcyclist Impaled by Metal Bar in Construction Zone Accident

Nakhon ratchasima: A young man riding a motorcycle crashed into a barrier during a road construction site and was impaled by a piece of metal. A life-or-death situation unfolded at 3:00 AM this morning on the Phimai-Chakkarat road, between Ban Sung, Samrit Subdistrict, Phimai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. Emergency medical services (1669) from Phimai Hospital rushed to the aid of a man who had been impaled in multiple places on his body and neck by a piece of rebar. He was bleeding profusely and groaning in pain. It took over 30 minutes to cut and remove the metal. The man, identified as Mr. Kriangsak, 40, was then rushed to the hospital for further treatment. The impaled metal was found to be a reinforcing steel mesh used for concrete road construction.

According to Thai News Agency, a friend of Mr. Kriangsak revealed that both of them worked at a salt factory. After work, they were riding their separate motorcycles home. Upon reaching the scene of the accident, there were plastic barriers on both sides of the road with a rope and light in the middle. The friend, who was following behind, saw them, but Mr. Kriangsak drove through the barrier, hitting the rope and then colliding with the metal bars placed along the road. As a result, he was impaled by the metal in his body.

Road workers stated that a reinforced concrete road is currently under construction, and steel reinforcement is being laid along the road at night. They were sleeping nearby when they heard an ambulance arrive with its siren on and went to investigate. They did not witness the incident. Rescue workers said the injured person was likely driving at high speed.
