Bangkok: Relatives, friends, and members of the public gathered at the site of the devastating fire at the Lat Phrao brewery to lay flowers in memory of the victims. According to Thai News Agency, the Central Forensic Science Division has made significant progress in the investigation, including the recovery of CCTV footage from the site.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Wathee Aswuthamangkul, Commander of the Central Forensic Science Division, disclosed that officers are coordinating with investigators to meet with the technicians responsible for the brewery's electrical wiring and interior decorations. The ceiling, heavily damaged by the fire, has obscured the exact location of the wiring. Consequently, the area remains cordoned off, with no alterations permitted until a thorough inspection can be conducted. The schedule for this investigation will rely on the coordination between investigators and technicians.
Key evidence, such as CCTV cameras, has been retrieved from the scene. Officers specializing in computer and data recovery have worked tirelessly to examine and access the footage. The process is reportedly complete, and the Forensic Science Division is preparing to hand over the forensic report and footage to investigating officers today. Further investigation and an official report will be required to address any irregularities captured in the footage.
Meanwhile, mourners at the brewery site continued to pay their respects. Mr. Pakin brought roses to honor two friends who were at the brewery on the day of the incident and have since been unreachable. He suspects that they are among the deceased. Mr. Pakin recounted his connections with the missing friends, who were part of a group from Laos. On the incident day, he declined an invitation to join them at the brewery due to personal preferences, including the bar's policy on lighters and the discomfort he felt with the low ceiling.
Additionally, a candy seller is under investigation after suspicions arose that her table might have obstructed the exit, contributing to the tragedy. She clarified that her presence was temporary, replacing her sister for the night, and expressed her condolences by laying flowers for the deceased, many of whom were her colleagues. She explained that the table is small and movable, located near the back door to prevent its use as an entry or exit. She claimed no knowledge of the door being a designated fire escape but confirmed that people managed to escape through it during the fire.
In response to the tragedy, the Chatuchak District Office has announced the closure of the assistance center for fire victims at the Na Ladprao Brewery. Affected individuals can now seek assistance at the Ratchada Room, 2nd floor, Chatuchak District Office, starting today.
