Bangkok: The Mass Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) has announced that the demolition of the pedestrian overpass is complete, with ongoing efforts to reinforce the soil and mitigate water seepage.
According to Thai News Agency, the MRTA reported progress on addressing the water seepage issue in the MRT tunnel at Wongwian Yai intersection, part of the Purple Line Project, Tao Poon - Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring Road) Contract 4, Saphan Phut - Dao Khanong section. As of the morning of July 11, 2026, the contractor successfully removed the overpass around 7:00 AM. Grouting was completed at a depth of 37 meters to halt groundwater seepage at one point, with work continuing at four additional points and one more expected to be finished today.
The MRTA has observed a decrease in water inflow rates compared to July 10, 2026, leading to a reduction in pumping operations. Building movement within a 30-meter radius is being monitored every 30 minutes using tilt measurement equipment, with a noted decline in building movement and road subsidence.
Following the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's (BMA) directive to prohibit entry to neighboring buildings for safety, the MRTA and its contractor have set up a complaint center at King Taksin Monument. So far, 105 residents from at-risk buildings have reached out for assistance. Some have temporarily relocated with relatives or friends, while 32 residents have yet to contact the center regarding alternative accommodation offered by the contractor, who is coordinating with them. Affected individuals are encouraged to reach the complaint center at King Taksin Monument or call 08 4356 5211. Apologies are extended for any inconvenience caused.
