Bangkok: The National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has accepted a complaint regarding corruption in the local government civil service examination and has established a subcommittee to investigate, classifying it as a "special national case." The investigation specifically targets the Director-General of the Department of Local Administration and examination officials, aiming to identify the masterminds behind the alleged fraud. The police and the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) are also involved in expanding the investigation.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surapong Intarathaworn, Secretary-General of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) and its spokesperson, announced that officials have compiled information and evidence regarding allegations that government officials under the Department of Local Administration, Ministry of Interior, manipulated exam scores and solicited money from applicants to help them pass the 2025 competitive examination for recruitment of local government officials. This information will be submitted to the NACC for consideration.
It was resolved to conduct a special investigation by establishing an investigative committee under Section 51 of the Organic Act on Prevention and Suppression of Corruption B.E. 2018. The investigation will focus on senior executives of the Department of Local Administration Promotion, government officials responsible for administering examinations, and non-government individuals who may have altered test scores or acted as brokers to extort money from test takers. Other individuals involved in the commission of the offense will also be investigated.
In conducting the investigation into the allegations, the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) will coordinate with the Royal Thai Police and the Department of Special Investigation to request officers from those agencies to assist the investigation committee.
