Pakorn Calls for Justification in Dissolving National Security Agencies

Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilapraphan has emphasized the need for clear justification and legal amendments before considering the dissolution of national security agencies such as the National Security Council (NSC) and the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC). He remarked on proposals presented by the Special Committee reviewing the 2027 Budget Bill, which suggested dismantling the Office of National Reform, Strategy and Reconciliation (ONRSR) and ISOC due to perceived overlaps in authority.

According to Thai News Agency, Pakorn highlighted that any dissolution of government bodies must be based on legal grounds and not merely through declarations. He stressed the importance of consulting with those proposing the dissolution and ensuring that the process adheres to the law. Pakorn pointed out that dissolving an agency involves identifying its shortcomings and determining which body would assume its responsibilities.

The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated that dissolving a government agency like ISOC, which plays a crucial role in national security integration, is a complex procedure. It requires clear reasons and must follow legal processes, involving amendments to existing laws. He cautioned against hasty decisions, emphasizing that proper justification and consultation are critical to the process.
