Bangkok:The Prime Minister has urgently directed measures to address the heavy rainfall affecting the southern region, forming a special task force to expedite compensation payments to those impacted.
According to Thai News Agency, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul chaired a virtual meeting of the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command to monitor the flood situation and coordinate assistance. After the meeting, he issued further instructions to ensure effective aid for flood victims and preparedness for anticipated heavy rainfall.
Local authorities and public health agencies have been tasked with closely monitoring public health. The disposal of animal carcasses is to be expedited to prevent disease, with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives leading the effort. Governors in regions expecting imminent heavy rain must closely monitor conditions and prepare operational teams to assist the public immediately. They are also instructed to clear obstructions to waterways to ensure efficient drainage.
In the southern region, authorities are directed to identify high-risk areas and improve drainage systems. Preparations for evacuation and public warnings are emphasized, including reviewing shelters and communication channels. Provincial governors must report on preparedness and coordinate with the central government.
The Prime Minister has mandated an expedited survey and verification of affected households to facilitate quick assistance. Special task forces are to be established to ensure the rapid transfer of funds once eligibility is confirmed, without waiting for floodwaters to recede entirely. Payments should be processed immediately to alleviate hardship for flood victims.
