Chiang Mai:Residents of Chiang Mai are coming together to craft sandalwood flowers in preparation for a royal cremation ceremony. The initiative was launched with a kick-off event where participants received training in creating prototype sandalwood flowers. The “Chaba Thip” flower, also known as Hibiscus sabdariffa, was selected for its symbolic representation of gentleness, compassion, and elegance.
According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere at the Chiang Mai Provincial Hall was lively as government agencies, members of the public, and women’s groups from the province gathered. Dressed in their finest clothing, participants were enthusiastic about contributing to the creation of these flowers. The event was held at the exhibition hall commemorating Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother.
The kick-off event, which took place on September 21st, provided an opportunity for participants to learn how to make the flowers as a gesture of gratitude for Her Majesty the Queen Mother’s benevolence. Those who took part expressed pride in their work, intending to offer the flowers as a tribute to her kindness.
The Governor of Chiang Mai has extended an invitation to all residents to join in making the “Chaba Thip” sandalwood flowers. This community effort aims to produce one million flowers by the end of October. The flowers will be distributed across all 25 districts of Chiang Mai according to population proportion, ensuring readiness for the upcoming royal ceremony. Citizens can participate in this initiative at the Provincial Hall or the nearest district office.
