Today at 5:13 PM, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen proceeded to the Royal Crematorium at Wat Thepsirin for the royal cremation ceremony of Professor Emeritus Songkram Sapcharoen, who passed away due to a blood infection on September 6, 2025, at the age of 97. Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn was present to receive Their Majesties.
According to Thai News Agency, Professor Emeritus Songkram Sapcharoen was a distinguished figure in the Thai medical field, known for his contributions to public health and tuberculosis control. Born in 1927 in Samut Songkhram Province, he pursued a medical degree at Mahidol University and further specialized in the United States. His work laid the foundation for tobacco control and the discovery of Mycoplasma pneumonia in Thailand. He played a significant role in promoting the Medical Association of Thailand internationally and was honored by the Medical Council of Thailand as a "Revered Physician."
Later, at 5:59 PM, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen proceeded to Amporn Sathan Throne Hall, Dusit Palace, where they granted audiences to several distinguished groups. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and his delegation presented a donation to the Royal Scholarship Foundation of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn. Established in 2009, the foundation has provided scholarships to over 1,222 students, supporting their education from secondary to undergraduate levels.
In addition, Mr. Aswin and Mrs. Thapanee Techacharoenwikul, representing the Siriwatthanaphakdi Foundation and the BJC Big C Foundation, presented two ambulances equipped with modern medical instruments for His Majesty's use. Mr. Porntep Pornprabha, Chairman of Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited, also offered best wishes and presented funds for His Majesty's discretionary use.
Furthermore, Mr. Pattana Promphat, Minister of Public Health, along with executives from the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Institute, presented an ambulance and medical equipment for His Majesty's consideration. This was followed by Mr. Thamsak Sethaudom, President and CEO of Siam Cement Public Company Limited, who presented a donation for His Majesty's discretionary use.
