Royal Irrigation Department Accelerates Water Drainage in Chao Phraya Basin

Samut Prakan:The Royal Irrigation Department is expediting the drainage of water from the eastern Chao Phraya River basin into the Gulf of Thailand to reduce potential impacts on the public.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wittaya Kaewmee, Director-General of the Royal Irrigation Department, along with key officials, visited the Suvarnabhumi Pumping Station in Samut Prakan Province. Their visit was aimed at monitoring the water situation and emphasizing the urgency of water management and drainage to handle water volumes from upstream areas.

The department is utilizing the entire irrigation infrastructure in the lower Chao Phraya basin, including sluice gates, pumping stations, and drainage canals, to facilitate the swift movement of water from upstream areas through central regions to downstream areas, ultimately reaching the Gulf of Thailand. Since September 25th, over 482 million cubic meters of water have been successfully drained.

The Royal Irrigation Department plans to continue releasing water to accommodate incoming flows from upstream regions, thereby minimizing public impact. They are committed to closely monitoring the situation and adjusting water release plans as necessary.
