Bangkok: The Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Armed Forces has approved the establishment of the "5th Army" to address challenges in AI and space exploration, effective October 1st. This initiative marks a significant shift in military strategy, aiming to integrate advanced technologies into the armed forces.
According to Thai News Agency, the Supreme Commander of the Royal Thai Armed Forces has mandated the formation of an "AI Army" and a 5th Army, named the Joint Capability Command (JCC), to spearhead advancements in technology and space exploration. The Supreme Commander emphasized the urgent need for action, stating that the rapid decline in the technology graph necessitates immediate measures, with room for adjustments based on future learnings.
General Ukrit Boontanon, Chief of the Royal Thai Armed Forces, chaired a seminar titled "Digital Readiness for One Team RTARF" at the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters. During the seminar, General Boontanon outlined the strategic reforms underway to align the Thai armed forces with future technological demands. He highlighted the need for a 'Fifth Armed Force' dedicated to technological support, with the JCC set to commence operations on October 1st.
The JCC will focus on five core areas: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Electromagnetic Warfare Operation (EMSO), Robotics (Combat Robots), Air Defence, and Space Technology. General Boontanon stressed the importance of immediate action, acknowledging that while mistakes may occur, they will provide valuable data for improvement. He urged all personnel to adapt to new technologies and leverage them to enhance the armed forces' capabilities.
The seminar aimed to enhance personnel skills by imparting digital knowledge, reducing redundancy, and boosting operational efficiency. High-ranking commanders, including Vice Admiral Kiatipong Srisopa, participated in the event. Additionally, national experts delivered lectures on strategy, technology/AI, and future trends, providing valuable insights into the application of technology in military operations. Key speakers included Professor Dr. Suchatvee Suwansawat, Mr. Jirayut Sapsrisopa, and Private Nitichot Jongrungruang.
