Royal Thai Navy Commences First Rehearsal for 2026 Royal Barge Procession

Bangkok: Today marks the first day of rehearsals for the royal barge procession. The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy has urged all oarsmen and personnel involved to perform their duties to the best of their abilities, aiming to create a lasting impression on both Thais and foreigners with the magnificent spectacle of the royal barge procession, as in the past.

According to Thai News Agency, at the foot of Rama VIII Bridge at approximately 9:30 AM this morning, Admiral Pairoj Fuengchan, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy, presided over the opening ceremony of the rehearsal for the Royal Barge Procession. This was in preparation for the Royal Barge Procession during the Kathina Robe Offering Ceremony in 2026, commemorating the 4th cycle birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit on June 3, 2026. High-ranking naval officers, along with 2,200 personnel involved in the Royal Barge Procession and oarsmen, were present.

The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Navy gave a motivational speech to the personnel, urging them to prepare themselves, dedicate their physical and mental strength, and show perseverance throughout the remaining training period to the best of their ability. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that this year's Royal Barge Procession would be magnificent and befitting of His Majesty's honor, creating a lasting impression on both Thais and foreigners who witness it, as in previous years.

According to the schedule, prior to the royal ceremony on November 6, 2026, to ensure the procession is beautiful and befitting of His Majesty, the Royal Thai Navy has scheduled a total of 10 rehearsals. After the first rehearsal today, the next rehearsal will be on August 20. In addition to these 10 rehearsals, there will be two full-scale rehearsals on October 21 and 28, 2026.

The royal barge, currently at Thonburi Dock, will be brought out of the dock around noon to begin the procession at Vasukri Pier. Then, at 3:00 PM, a rehearsal will begin using the actual route to familiarize the personnel with the waterway, wind, and environmental conditions.
