Bangkok: Police have uncovered another key figure in the ongoing investigation into a "Chinese child pimping" ring, uncovering connections to a fraudulent Thai citizenship scheme. The latest findings reveal the involvement of a Chinese mother, adding a new dimension to the scammer case.
According to Thai News Agency, authorities have identified a man named "Prinya" on a list of surrogate fathers linked to the scam. This connection has been established through the identification of a Chinese woman involved in a similar case. DNA testing is currently in progress to confirm these ties. The investigation has already led to the arrest of 19 individuals accused of facilitating fraudulent Thai citizenship for Chinese parents. It has been revealed that Mr. Prinya is involved in the "father-in-law" scheme, recognizing a child with a Chinese mother as his own. His ties to Chen Yinlai, a Chinese suspect previously apprehended in a related scam, further complicate the case.
Despite the mounting evidence, authorities have yet to secure arrest warrants for Mr. Prinya and Ms. Pao Jiao Chen, identified as the child's mother, as they await DNA results to substantiate the blood relationship. Initial reports suggested that over 1,000 foreign children might be affected by false birth registrations. However, investigations now indicate the actual number is closer to 500. Additionally, evidence points to the possible involvement of staff from five private hospitals in the scheme. Investigators are diligently gathering more evidence to solidify the case before pursuing legal actions. The expectation is that over 10 additional arrest warrants will be issued shortly.
