Bangkok: The Ministry of Commerce is organizing a major event to transform the Thai gem industry from OEM to ODM at the 74th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, expecting a turnover of 160 million USD. The Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of International Trade Promotion, in collaboration with the Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand, announced the upcoming 74th Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, to be held from September 8th to 12th, 2026, at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center. The event aims to elevate Thai businesses from mere contract manufacturers to designers and developers of value-added products on the global stage. The fair is expected to attract at least 45,000 visitors from around the world and generate over US$160 million in trade.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Surin Sunthornsnan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion, revealed that the gem and jewelry industry is one of Thailand's ten main export industries. Despite facing economic fluctuations and reciprocal tariff measures, exports in the first six months of 2026 still grew by 11.58 percent, reaching a value of US$8,253.19 million, clearly reflecting confidence in the global market. This event, held at the Queen Sirikit Convention Center, features over 1,300 companies from more than 20 countries, with a highlight zone showcasing Thailand's creativity and design potential as a global hub for design.
Mr. Sumet Prasongpongchai, Director of the National Gem and Jewelry Research and Development Institute, added that Thailand is ready as a global hub for colored gemstone trade, possessing accumulated wisdom and expertise in gemstone cutting, as well as the use of technology and innovation to create added value. The event will feature gemstone analysis and certification services provided by internationally standardized laboratories, ensuring the highest level of confidence for investors and buyers from around the world.
