Thailand Braces for Heavy Rain and Flash Flood Warnings

Bangkok: The Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rain expected to hit Thailand on July 2-3, 2026. This announcement, numbered 12, emphasizes the risk of flash floods and advises small boats to stay ashore.

According to Thai News Agency, the anticipated weather conditions are due to a monsoon trough passing over the northern and upper Northeast regions, alongside a strong southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. The upper Northeast, East, and western South are predicted to experience significant rainfall, raising the risk of flash floods and landslides, particularly in sloped, low-lying, and waterway-adjacent areas.

Wave conditions in the upper Andaman Sea are expected to be rough, with waves reaching 2-3 meters, and surpassing 3 meters in thunderstorm-affected areas. The lower Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand will see waves around 2 meters, with higher surges in thunderstorms. Mariners are advised to proceed with caution and avoid sailing in storm-prone areas, while small boats should not venture out during the warning period.

The department also reported a tropical depression in the central South China Sea, moving towards Hainan Island and southern China, though it is not expected to directly affect Thailand's weather. The public is urged to stay informed via the Meteorological Department's website or contact numbers, as conditions may evolve.
