Huai kha khaeng: A tragic incident unfolded at the Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary when a forest ranger was attacked and killed by a tiger, prompting immediate action from wildlife authorities. The Director-General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation has ordered the area temporarily closed and camera traps installed to identify the tiger responsible.
According to Thai News Agency, the Director-General, Mr. Atthapol Charoenchansa, revealed that he received a report from Ms. Chayaporn Amradit, Director of the Conservation Area Management Office 12 (Nakhon Sawan), who visited the site following the attack on Mr. Sakarin Wichajarn. In response, Mr. Atthapol ordered the temporary closure of the area and the urgent identification of the tiger believed to be involved in the attack.
Officials from the academic division and the Khao Nang Ram Wildlife Research Station have been assigned to set up camera traps in areas where the tiger might return. This effort aims to confirm the tiger's identity and monitor its behavior to inform future scientific procedures and safety measures.
Mr. Atthapol emphasized that the tiger is a wild Bengal tiger residing in a remote forest area within the sanctuary, away from human settlements, and thus does not pose an immediate threat to public safety. Nevertheless, authorities are committed to closely monitoring the situation and employing scientific methods to ensure safety.
In light of the incident, Mr. Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, has ordered the Department to support the family of the deceased ranger fully. Additionally, he has called for a comprehensive review and enhancement of safety protocols for forest rangers working in high-risk areas across the country to safeguard the well-being of field personnel.
