Trademark Application for ‘NENE ROYAL’ Withdrawn Amid Criticism

Chiang Mai:A woman from Chiang Mai has withdrawn her application to register the trademark 'NENE ROYAL'.

According to Thai News Agency, the Director-General of the Department of Intellectual Property, Ms. Jittima Srithaporn, confirmed the withdrawal of the application, which was submitted online. The decision came after the applicant faced criticism over the right to register an artist's name. The applicant stated that her intention was to gift the trademark to the artist Nene, not for commercial purposes.

The Department of Intellectual Property is now preparing to ask the applicant for clarification or evidence of permission from the owner of the name. Additionally, the department is handling another trademark application filed by the company managing Nene's rights. This application, submitted in Thailand on September 11, covers goods and services like audio files and clothing. The department plans to use the Fast Track process to check for similarities with existing trademarks within six months.
