Bangkok: A fire broke out in a three-story house, tragically killing a man and a woman, and leaving behind over 50 dead cats. According to Thai News Agency, the fire erupted at 6:00 AM on July 18, 2026, prompting police at Samrae Police Station to respond to the emergency. Officials from Talat Phlu Fire and Rescue Station and volunteers from the Poh Teck Tung Foundation also rushed to the scene on Soi Somdej Phra Chao Taksin 11, Somdej Phra Chao Taksin Road, Samrae Subdistrict, Thonburi District, Bangkok.
The fire, which began on the first floor, quickly spread to the second floor. Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze within approximately 15 minutes. Upon inspection of the second floor, officials discovered the bodies of a 62-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman, along with the carcasses of over 50 cats in a pet enclosure. Thirteen cats were rescued from the scene.
Forensic officers and pathologists from Siriraj Hospital conducted a joint examination of the bodies and gathered evidence. Initial suspicions point to an electrical short circuit as the potential cause of the fire. Authorities continue to investigate to confirm the exact cause of the tragedy.
