Bangkok: "Wannor" is gearing up for a pivotal meeting in Malaysia this September, aimed at advancing peace initiatives in the region. This development comes as the Prime Minister plans a visit to Malaysia on July 9-10, where he is anticipated to seek assistance in expediting lasting peace efforts.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor Matha, who serves as the political advisor to the Prime Minister and advisor to the government's special representative, has provided insights into the ongoing peace talks concerning the southern border provinces. He revealed that a subcommittee is currently engaged in internal discussions, with around two meetings remaining before a larger meeting convenes in Malaysia in September. The goal of this larger meeting is to reach an agreement, potentially leading to a signed joint resolution. Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor expressed optimism about the progress, noting that the expected outcome of the September meeting could mark significant advancement in the peace talks.
Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor also addressed the Prime Minister's upcoming trip to Malaysia, clarifying that while the primary purpose is related to his role as Prime Minister and ASEAN member, the discussions may touch upon the peace and order in the southern border provinces. Although not the main focus of the visit, it is expected that Malaysia's assistance will be sought to expedite the peace process.
In response to concerns about ongoing incidents in the southern region, Mr. Wan Muhammad Nor acknowledged that all parties involved are actively analyzing the situation. He noted that while the frequency of violence is relatively high, the level of danger to life is not considered significant.
