Bangkok: Wat Sutthiwararam School defeated Thepsirin School in a penalty shootout to advance to the semi-finals of the BG Cup U19 youth football tournament.
According to Thai News Agency, the president of the Thai Football Development Foundation confirmed the readiness for the nationwide eight-a-side youth football championship, 'GLO Cup 2026,' for ages U13 and U15, with total prize money exceeding 1 million baht.
The AssetWise BG Cup U19 2025 youth football tournament took place at the BGPU Training Center 3. In the quarter-finals, Wat Sutthiwararam School, ranked 4th in Group B, faced Thepsirin School, the Group A champion. The game was a close 90 minutes with both teams exchanging attacks. Wat Sutthiwararam was reduced to 10 men in the final 15 minutes but managed to hold Thepsirin School to a 0-0 draw, forcing a penalty shootout. Wat Sutthiwararam ultimately won 4-3, advancing to the semi-finals to face Assumption Thonburi School, who defeated Bangkok Christian College 6-5 on penalties. The semi-final match will be held tomorrow (February 12th) at 1:00 PM, with Assumption Sriracha School playing Suankularb Wittayalai School.
Mr. Laworn Saengsanit, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance and Chairman of the Government Lottery Board, together with Air Chief Marshal Piyapong Pue-on, Chairman of the Thai Football Development Foundation, confirmed the readiness for the "GLO Cup 2026" eight-a-side youth football championship for under-13 and under-15 age groups nationwide. The tournament offers over 1 million baht in prize money and will select talented young players under the GLO STAR project to develop their skills with leading clubs in Japan's J-League for six months. Thai national team players, Chanathip Songkrasin and Teerasil Dangda, were present to share their experiences playing in the J-League. Registration for the tournament will be open from February 11th to March 20th, followed by nationwide qualifying rounds in September to determine the finalists.
