Bangkok: Anutin Charnvirakul, the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, is advancing efforts to promote peace along the Thai-Malaysian border. The Prime Minister disclosed that the Minister of Defence recently traveled to Malaysia, aiming to enhance cooperation and create peace in the southern border provinces. He refrained from commenting on the delay of talks with the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN), citing the sensitivity of the issue and deferring responsibility to those in charge.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin Charnvirakul highlighted the visit of Lieutenant General Adul Boonthamcharoen to Malaysia for bilateral discussions with Dato' Seri Mohammad Khaled Nordin, the Malaysian Minister of Defence. The focus of the talks was to bolster security and defense cooperation and to review the progress of joint efforts between the two nations. Anutin emphasized the urgency of achieving peace, tranquility, and stability in the border areas, noting the long-standing and positive diplomatic relationship between Malaysia and Thailand. He stressed that immediate dialogue is crucial to prevent conflict escalation.
The postponement of peace talks with the BRN, originally set for September 2026, remains indefinite. Anutin mentioned that questions regarding this sensitive matter should be directed to the Minister of Defense, as the issue requires a careful approach. He reiterated that he would address inquiries related to policy as directed by the Minister.
