Bangkok: The Bangkok governor rushed to the critical point of Bangna-Trat to urgently solve the problem of flooding across the district, and urgently coordinated with Samut Prakan to open a waterway to Khlong Samrong.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chadchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, along with Mr. Wisanu Sapsompol, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Mr. Jessada Chantaraprapha, Director of the Drainage and Sewerage Department, and executives of the Drainage and Sewerage Department inspected Bangna-Trat Road in Samut Prakan Province, Kilometer 6, which is a road of the Department of Highways and is a border with Bangkok. Due to the heavy rain causing flooding on Friday, May 16th.
The Bangkok governor said that on May 16, 2015, heavy rain fell in Bang Na District, causing flooding at kilometers 6-7 at Central Bang Na, Srinakarin Road and Bearing. However, after about an hour, all the water was drained. However, there was flooding in areas outside Bangkok, namely at kilometers 6, where there was heavy traffic, such as Mega Bang Na, because both lanes of traffic were flooded. Water from the road flowed into Khlong Plad Priang in Samut Prakan Province, but Khlong Plad Priang was full of water. This canal then flowed into Khlong Samrong and Khlong Bang Na. Another canal that drains water in Samut Prakan is Khlong Bang Kaew Yai. After this, we will need to coordinate between Bangkok and Samut Prakan, as well as all nearby provinces, to help speed up the drainage of water because we are like neighbors. If the municipality requests anything, we are happy to help because even though we are not in Bangkok, we have to take care of it. We cannot refuse. We need to cooperate more strictly.
The executives then visited the Khlong Rong Thaeo pumping station, where a 270-meter canal dam is being constructed. The progress is now over 80% and is expected to be completed in June 2025. After construction is complete, the water pumping capacity will be increased from 3 to 4 cubic meters per second. This project is one of over 700 projects that need to be improved. A project to solve the flooding problem is not a project that can be solved immediately. It requires gradual planning, including budget allocation.
On the evening of the same day, the Bangkok governor and his team continued their visit to the Khlong Samrong Pumping Station, Samrong Nuea Subdistrict Municipality, Samut Prakan Province, which has 25 water pumps to drain water into Khlong Samrong and the Chao Phraya River. It is a pumping station that works very well and is very strong. Today, they visited to find a way to coordinate together. The problem with the flooding is that the water does not reach the canal, so we have to help push the water to reach Khlong Samrong. I would like to thank the Samrong Nuea Subdistrict Pumping Station for helping to pump water out of Khlong Samrong and maintaining the water level well. I would also like to thank the Samut Prakan governor, the Samut Prakan Provincial Administrative Organization, and the mayor of Samrong Nuea Subdistrict Municipality for taking good care of this pumping station.
