Kathmandu: China is stepping in to support Nepal in the wake of the recent mudslide disaster. According to Thai News Agency, Nepalese Foreign Minister Chishir Khanal expressed gratitude to China for its humanitarian assistance during this challenging time. He highlighted the shared natural ecosystem between Nepal and China in the Himalayas, emphasizing the mutual impact of climate change and the need for international cooperation to address these challenges.
Khanal clarified that Nepal is not seeking 'climate justice compensation' from any single nation, including China. Instead, the country plans to seek compensation from the international community, aligning with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Paris Agreement.
Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Zhang Maoming, confirmed that China has offered various types of support to help Nepal manage the aftermath of the severe mudslide. He voiced confidence in the strength of the cooperation and solidarity between the two nations in overcoming the crisis.
Zhang further remarked that climate change poses a universal challenge, affecting all countries. He assured that China is prepared to collaborate with Nepal and the international community to foster exchanges and cooperation aimed at addressing and mitigating the effects of climate change.
