Government Partners with Ministries to Establish Safe School Spaces

Bangkok: The government is joining forces with two ministries to create safe spaces in schools and eliminate violence and bullying in all its forms. Lieutenant Colonel Patthadarasmi Thongsalooykorn, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, revealed that the government is fully committed to upgrading child welfare and safety in educational institutions. A new project, "Child Friendly School," has been launched for 2026, a collaboration between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, aiming to eliminate violence, bullying, and child rights violations both in real life and online.

According to Thai News Agency, this project aims to create a safe space for children, driven by a safety strategy that seamlessly integrates the work of both ministries. It will involve a 24-hour reporting system, linking the Ministry of Education's SAFE SCHOOL system with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security's 1300 hotline, ensuring children have quick, safe, and confidential access to assistance.

In addition, there is a proactive multidisciplinary team approach, "One Team, One Goal," that integrates work at the local level. This allows the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) at the provincial level, educational institutions, and local authorities to use information technology and database systems collaboratively to screen and provide immediate assistance to children in the area.

The deputy spokesperson for the Prime Minister stated that the government is not only focusing on safety within schools when the new semester begins, but its ultimate goal is to create a truly safe environment around children-including family, community, and the online world-ensuring that vulnerable youth have equal access to rights, welfare, and education, leaving no one behind.
