Bangkok: The Social Security Office is conducting an urgent investigation into hospitals that have been dispensing reduced quantities of HIV medication to insured individuals, causing them inconvenience. The office assures the public that there is no shortage of the medication and encourages affected individuals to seek assistance.
According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytale Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed that an insured person shared on social media about receiving incomplete HIV medication at a private hospital, necessitating multiple trips to obtain the full prescription. In response, the Social Security Office has accelerated its investigation into the matter. Previously, the distribution of medications was proceeding without issues. Insured individuals experiencing problems with HIV antiretroviral drugs are advised to contact the Medical Service System Division, Pharmacy Section, at 02-9562500 to procure the necessary medication. The investigation indicated no shortage of HIV antiretroviral drugs, suggesting that some hospitals might be selectively dispensing the medication. Nonetheless, most hospitals continue to dispense HIV antiretroviral drugs as usual.
Ms. Ploytalee emphasized the government's commitment to combating the spread of HIV/AIDS and preventing discrimination against those living with the virus. She highlighted the ongoing efforts by the government and various sectors to reduce infections and ensure continuous access to antiretroviral medication. The National Health Security Fund, known as the '30-Baht Card,' provides benefits for individuals with HIV and AIDS, ensuring equitable access to treatment and services.
