MEA Warns of Fake LINE Accounts: Beware of Scammers Impersonating MEA Officials

Bangkok: MEA warns of fake LINE accounts...beware of scammers impersonating MEA officials, tricking you into meter inspections and demanding payment. MEA, or the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, warns the public to be wary of fake LINE accounts. Scammers are impersonating MEA officials, sending messages claiming to be inspecting electricity meters and attempting to build credibility to trick people into allowing access or collecting fees. These messages are false and not from MEA.

According to Thai News Agency, MEA confirms that inspections of electrical systems by its officers will be conducted according to agency procedures, and no fees will be charged via chat, telephone, or on-site, without MEA's supporting documents and procedures. If site access is necessary, officers will be able to present their official identification cards and relevant documents for inspection by the public.

MEA urges the public not to believe messages or accounts that cannot be verified and to verify information directly with MEA before taking any action.

MEA advises the public to follow these instructions: Do not allow strangers into the area without verifying their identity. Do not transfer money or make payments based on instructions received via chat or phone. All personnel are required to present their identification cards before commencing work. If you receive a message like this, stop the conversation and contact MEA immediately for investigation.

The public can verify accurate information through MEA's official online channels at Line: MEA Connect (@MEAthailand), which must have a green shield symbol preceding the account name, or by contacting the MEA Call Center at 1130, available 24 hours a day.
