Nonthaburi: The Nonthaburi Governor addressed public concerns regarding the treatment of Chalong Riangrang, a suspect in a high-profile case, emphasizing the suspect's stress levels.
According to Thai News Agency, Governor Chettha Mosikarat provided clarification on images circulating on social media that showed Chalong Riangrang, a former Nonthaburi MP and suspect in the fatal shooting of the Provincial Administrative Organization Chairman, smoking and not being handcuffed during questioning. The governor explained that the suspect was under significant stress and requested to exercise his rights, including smoking. The governor further clarified that the handcuffs were temporarily removed due to the suspect's condition but were otherwise worn almost continuously.
The ongoing investigation into the death of the Provincial Administrative Organization chairman has led investigators to invest more time in questioning suspects. They obtained a court-issued search warrant for the suspect's home to search for firearms, ammunition, and other evidence. The court is considering revoking the suspect's firearms license. Tomorrow, investigators will present the suspect to the Nonthaburi Provincial Court to request a first remand order, citing the crime's severity and high penalties as reasons for opposing bail.
In addition to addressing the investigation, the Governor announced plans for a significant merit-making ceremony for the province, following a week marked by major criminal incidents.
Later in the day, police escorted Mr. Chalong back to Rattanathibet Police Station after searching his residence in Wat Bang Phraek Tai. The search lasted approximately 30 minutes, from 6:40 PM to 7:10 PM, and resulted in the discovery of 30 rounds of ammunition. When questioned by reporters at the police station, Mr. Chalong declined to comment on the search and was handcuffed during the arrest.
