Bangkok: Turkish Prime Minister Sihasak Srimuang has called for patience as Thailand awaits the official results of the investigation into the death of Bowornthat Pengsuk, known as "Hlun Solo," a popular travel YouTuber who passed away in Georgia. Despite the absence of a Thai embassy in Georgia, Srimuang assured that Turkish embassy officials are managing the situation.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sihasak Phuangketkaew, extended condolences to Bowornthat's family, describing his death as unexpected. Bowornthat, a seasoned traveler, was found dead after going missing for several days. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has coordinated with the Thai Embassy in Ankara, Turkey, which oversees affairs in Georgia, dispatching officials to Tbilisi to investigate the circumstances surrounding Bowornthat's death. The official cause of death remains pending confirmation from the Georgian authorities and a report from the Thai Embassy.
Sihasak stated that the body would be repatriated to Thailand once the investigation concludes, taking into account the family's wishes. Addressing concerns over possible delays, he explained that immediate action was taken once Bowornthat's disappearance was reported, leading to the discovery of his body in a hotel room. During his time in Georgia, Bowornthat was regularly filming a TV program, and the loss of contact prompted swift coordination with Georgian authorities.
On the widespread speculation regarding the cause of death, including assault or suicide, Sihasak emphasized the importance of waiting for the official investigation results before making any assumptions. He reiterated that the family has been kept informed and that the repatriation process will follow the completion of the investigation.
In response to questions about the safety of Thai citizens in Georgia amidst reports of tourist fatalities, Sihasak clarified that alerts are issued for areas deemed unsafe or conflict-ridden. Travelers are encouraged to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for updated safety information.
