Bangkok: The governor of Narathiwat has commanded the manhunt for the killers of two police officers in Tak Bai. The Governor of Narathiwat Province has taken command of the operation following the shooting deaths of two police officers from the Tak Bai Police Station's investigative unit. A coordinated operation has been launched to surround the area and apprehend the perpetrators. Three suspects have been arrested, with two more still at large.
According to Thai News Agency, following an incident where gunmen opened fire on investigative police officers from Tak Bai Police Station while they were on duty, resulting in the deaths of two officers and injuries to three others, Mr. Boonchuey Homyamyen, Governor of Narathiwat Province, held a planning meeting with Pol. Gen. Piyawat Chalermsri, Commander of Provincial Police Region 9. He ordered a coordinated operation involving three branches: the administrative sector, police, and military, to intensely surround and search the area, prioritizing the safety of both the public and the officers on duty.
In addition, a force of 54 personnel, including village heads, assistant village heads, village security teams, and members of the volunteer territorial defense corps, were mobilized to set up checkpoints and patrol in 7 zones covering the areas of Phaiwan and Salamai subdistricts. Their aim was to intercept escape routes, inspect suspicious individuals and vehicles, and support ongoing search operations. Currently, three suspects have been apprehended for questioning, and authorities are gathering evidence according to legal procedures. Two other suspects fled into the forest approximately 1.7 kilometers from the scene, and authorities have tightened the cordon and are actively pursuing them.
Narathiwat province requests the cooperation of the public to avoid operational areas, follow official instructions, and refrain from disseminating images or information regarding the movements of security forces, which may affect tactics for tracking down the perpetrators.
