Nagoya: The Thai sailing team has arrived in Nagoya for a training camp in preparation for the 2026 Asian Games. The team, consisting of 12 sailors and coaching staff, was seen off by Admiral Chayut Navasputikorn, the manager of the Thai national sailing team, who offered words of encouragement before their departure for training in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan. The team is aiming to secure 3 to 4 medals at the upcoming games.
According to Thai News Agency, the Yacht Association of Thailand is entering the same eight classes for this Asian Games: men's and women's Ilga Four, women's Ilga Six, men's Ilga Seven, mixed doubles in the 420 and 470 classes, and men's and women's 29er doubles. The team is led by veteran sailor Tum Navee Thammasunthorn, a silver medalist in the Optimist class at the 2006 Asian Games, who will compete in the 470 class alongside Ne Nichapa Waiwai.
The association remains optimistic about the team's chances, particularly in the women's Ilga Four event, where they anticipate a gold medal due to the athletes' strong performance, ranking them among the top in Asia. The Thai national sailing team will train at Yacht Coyo Marina, which is the actual competition venue, allowing them to acclimate to the weather and sea conditions before the games commence from September 26th to October 3rd.
In a related development, Mr. Pichai Chunhavachir, President of the Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand, along with Pol. Gen. Chaiwat Chotima, Secretary-General of the Association, and executive committee members, visited the Thai boxers to offer words of encouragement as they prepare for their own training camp in Nagoya, ahead of their competition.
