Thailand will introduce a $9 entry fee for foreign visitors from April, officials said Wednesday, even as the kingdom seeks to lure travellers back and repair its Covid-battered tourism sector. Strict entry rules imposed to curb the pandemic hammered Thailand’s crucial tourism industry last year, contributing to the economy’s worst performance in more than 20 years. Thailand’s leading business group said on Wednesday it saw only a limited impact on the country’s economy from the latest coronavirus outbreak driven by the highly transmissible Omicron variant. “We expect the impact from the Omicron variant to be felt in the first quarter of 2022 then economic recovery will continue in the second quarter,” said Sanan Angubolkul, chairman of the Joint Standing Committee on Commerce, Industry and Banking.
