Nonthaburi: A tragic incident unfolded in the Bang Bua Thong District of Nonthaburi Province when a 7-year-old girl, identified as Phor-uma, fell into a large pond and drowned after a neighbor left a gate open. The gate had been left open to welcome guests for a meal at a nearby house, but this oversight led to the young girl's untimely death.
According to Thai News Agency, the Bang Bua Thong police were alerted and coordinated with a diving team after receiving a report of the incident. The girl had slipped and fallen into a pond located behind a house in Soi Rom Pho Thong. The pond, approximately 1 rai in size and 2 meters deep, became the site of a desperate search effort. Five divers scoured the waters for over 20 minutes before recovering the body of Phor-uma, who was wearing a pink t-shirt and black shorts.
Mr. Pichet, the 63-year-old caretaker of the house, explained that the young girl had initially approached her great-grandmother for money before wandering off. Her prolonged absence raised concerns among family members, prompting a search that led to the discovery of her shoes near the well. Typically, the girl never ventured near the pond due to a gate, but the gate had been opened that day due to the homeowner hosting guests for dinner. Phor-uma, who usually resided in a nearby house, often visited her great-grandmother but would wait outside the fence. Upon realizing she was missing, her great-grandmother and other family members suspected she might have fallen into the water. Their fears were confirmed upon reviewing CCTV footage, which showed the girl struggling in the water before drowning. Police have since sent her body to the Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy, as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
