According to Thai News Agency, these plates are designated for vehicles undergoing pre-production testing and quality control, with violations of the stipulated conditions subject to fines of up to 2,000 baht.
Ms. Ploytale Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, explained that the Department of Land Transport has authorized the use of TC and QC license plates for testing vehicles' integrity and performance. The aim is to assess system readiness and ensure vehicles meet standards before production, thus ensuring quality and safety. The distinctions between TC and QC license plates are significant:
TC license plates are assigned to "Pre-Production Test Vehicles," which include prototype cars or motorcycles that are newly manufactured, imported, or modified. These vehicles are tested under real-world conditions to verify they meet quality standards prior to mass production. The license for these plates is valid for 180 days. For cars, the plates are reflective white metal, measuring 15 by 34 centimeters, displaying "TC" followed by up to four digits, and the name of Bangkok. Motorcycles have a plate size of 17.20 by 22 centimeters with similar details.
QC license plates pertain to "Quality Test Vehicles," used for vehicles sampled for quality testing before sale. These plates are 15 by 34 centimeters, marked with "QC" followed by up to four digits, and the name of Bangkok. This permit is valid for 90 days.
All vehicles with TC or QC plates must carry a copy of the permit during testing, proof of insurance, and be driven by a licensed driver. Non-compliance with these conditions constitutes an offense under Section 6/1, paragraph three, and is punishable by the Motor Vehicle Act B.E. 2522, with fines up to 2,000 baht, as outlined by Ms. Ploytale.
